This evening (Tuesday), the Yom Kippur fast will commence in Israel. It will conclude tomorrow evening after 25 hours of fasting. Israeli security and emergency forces, including the IDF, Israel Police, Magen David Adom and Israel Fire and Rescue Services, will be on high alert throughout today and tomorrow.

In Jerusalem, the fast will begin at 5:36 PM today and conclude at 6:48 PM tomorrow. In Tel Aviv, it will commence at 5:51 PM and end at 6:49 PM. In Haifa, the fast will begin at 5:41 PM and come to an end at 6:48 PM. In Beersheba, the fast will commence at 5:54 PM and end at 6:50 PM.

During Yom Kippur, the West Bank will be sealed off and the Gaza border crossings will not be operating. Only Palestinians with humanitarian, medical and urgent cases will be allowed to enter into Israel. All cases will need to be approved by the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories.

At 11:59 PM tomorrow, the West Bank and Gaza border crossings will reopen. The IDF and Israeli political echelon decided to close off the West Bank and Gaza after they assessed the security situation.

In light of the tense security situation, Israeli security forces have increased their presence throughout Jerusalem in order to ensure the safety of the public. As reported by JOL earlier today, tens of thousands of Jewish worshipers visited the Western Wall yesterday evening ahead of Yom Kippur.
