Today (Saturday), the IDF responded to a Syrian shooting incident in the Golan Heights. No injuries were reported.
The incident took place after the Syrian military established an outpost in the demilitarized zone, contrary to cease-fire agreements. In response, an IDF tank fired warning shots at the area.
Last week, images from an Israeli satellite showed a permanent Iranian military base outside the Syrian city of El-Kiswah, a mere 50 kilometers (about 31 miles) away from the Israeli border.
As reported several days ago by JOL, during a rare interview with a Saudi newspaper, IDF Chief of General Staff Gadi Eizenkot said that Israel and Saudi Arabia share a common understanding when it comes to the threat from Iran. Eizenkot spoke about the tensions along Israel’s northern border and the possibility of a war with Hezbollah. “We have no intention of launching an attack on Hezbollah in Lebanon and starting a war,” he explained. “But we won’t tolerate a strategic threat against Israel.”
