Danon to the UN: Iran used Star of David for ballistic missile test

In a document presented by Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon, a Star of David appears to have been drawn on the ground as a target for an Iranian missile test. “The Security Council must not stand by in silence when one member state of the United Nations calls for the annihilation of another member state," Danon wrote.

Israel's ambassador to the UN Danny Danon presented unusual information to the UN Security Council on Wednesday about Iran's ballistic missile program and its intentions to use it against Israel. In a document sent to the council members, Danon revealed a satellite image showing that Iran used a Star of David, a widely recognized Jewish symbol, as a target for a ballistic missile test last December, a test which was in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

The Star of David that Danon presented was painted on the ground as the target mark and the photograph shows the crater that the rocket created upon landing. Danon's letter to the council argued that the missile test was not only a "gross violation" of the UN resolution, but also proved that "the ‘smile campaign’ of the current regime is nothing more than a smokescreen to disguise the real intentions of the ayatollah regime.”

Danon also called on Council members to act immediately against the Iranian threat, arguing that Iran supports the Assad regime, funds Hezbollah and supports terrorists and dictators throughout the Middle East and the world. "The Security Council must act immediately against this demonstration of hate and Iran's provocative violations that threaten the stability of the entire region," he wrote.

Just last month, Iran fired a ballistic missile at Syria and issued a statement threatening Israel. The launch was preceded by a series of ballistic tests carried out by Iran since 2015, all in violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
