Today (Wednesday), Shaykh Muwaffak Tarif, the spiritual leader of the Druze community in Israel, officially requested an urgent meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in light of recent events in the Golan Heights.

Tarif wishes to assess the situation with Netanyahu following the attack on Khader, which sits on the Syrian side of the border, in order to prevent similar incidents in the future and to prepare further actions. The leader thanked the IDF and the defense system and expressed appreciation for their immediate involvement that prevented terrorist organization Jabhat al-Nusra from taking over the town.

At the time, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit claimed that the military is prepared to intervene in the Syrian war in order to prevent the takeover of the town out of its commitment to the Druze community.

“The Druze community in Israel has a mutual alliance with the Jewish people,” Tarif concluded. “We are brothers. We see Israel as the protector of the Druze community. Our community in Israel will support its brothers around the world whenever they are attacked due to their ethnic origin.”
