Images from an Israeli satellite published exclusively by Channel 2 News show a permanent Iranian military base outside the Syrian city of El-Kiswah, a mere 50 kilometers (about 31 miles) away from the Israeli border.

These images, recently released by ImageSat International, confirm a report on BBC from earlier this week that Iran is establishing its military presence in Syria.

BBC reported that intelligence sources spoke of accelerated construction in the compound recently, with more than 20 new buildings built for housing soldiers and for storing vehicles.

On Wednesday, Israel's Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman warned that Israel will not allow for Syria to become an Iranian front line against Israel.
