Syrian woman and her baby boy alive thanks to Israeli doctorsDoctors at Rambam Medical Center saved the lives of a Syrian woman and her baby boy by carrying out a complex procedure followed by a C-section. In Syria, the woman was told that she needed to choose between her life and the life of her unborn child. However, the woman, determined to live and save her child, turned to Israel for help.
A Syrian woman and her newborn baby are both alive thanks to doctors at Haifa’s Rambam Medical Center. The woman returned to her home in Syria yesterday (Wednesday) after being hospitalized for two weeks at the Israeli hospital due to a pregnancy complication that would have forced her to choose between her life and the life of her unborn baby boy. However, the doctors in Israel were able to carry out two complex surgeries that saved not only her child’s life but also hers.
In February, a Syrian doctor told the woman, then nine months pregnant, that she would need to make that devastating choice after viewing her ultrasound results, which showed that the placenta had penetrated the uterine muscle. The doctor explained that the complication was the result of previous C-section deliveries and that she would need to continue her treatment at a modern hospital.
She decided to try to cross the border into Israel via the humanitarian crossing after she realized that she could not get to a modern hospital in Syria’s capital. At Rambam Medical Center, the doctors carried out a risky C-section after they took precautions to ensure that the woman would have the best chance of survival. The woman and her newborn baby boy are said to be in a good medical state.Click here to JerusalemOnline homepage
