Today (Wednesday), an Israeli diplomatic official told Reuters news agency that Israel will soon appoint a new ambassador to Jordan.

The announcement comes a month after the Jordanians claimed that they will not allow Israeli Ambassador to Jordan Einat Schlein to enter the country following the shooting incident. Amman also insisted on a legal procedure against the guard and refused to allow Israeli investigators to collect evidence from eyewitnesses.

“The Jordanians don’t want her (Schlein) back and this has been a big obstacle in patching things up,” the Israeli official told Reuters. “We’re looking for a replacement.”

The diplomatic rift between the countries erupted in July, when a Jordanian man attacked Israeli security guard Ziv Moyal with a screwdriver, whereupon Moyal killed the assailant. A second Jordanian also died in the incident.

Israel’s Foreign Affairs Ministry commented: “We are working on a solution that will restore the diplomatic relationship to its path.”
