Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas strongly condemned the US’ decision to move the American embassy to Jerusalem. Abbas stated, "The United States has lost its ability to mediate." He continued to defend Palestinian rights to Jerusalem by stating, "We are here, we have been Canaanites here for thousands of years and we will not stop until we return to our lands and have the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital."

Abbas also attacked US President Donald Trump’s decision, stating, “The Americans are making a mistake by moving the embassy.” The PA leader then turned the blame towards Israel by alleging that Muslims and Christians are mistreated in Jerusalem. He stated, “There is no respectable Jew who approves of what the Zionists do to Christians and Muslims in Jerusalem.”

Abbas concluded by stating that the end of the Oslo Agreement has been reached and that "any future negotiations will only be under international guidance, not under the auspices of the United States."
