Attempted terror attack thwarted in Jerusalem following manhunt

The Israel Police’s Central Unit and the Jerusalem Police arrested a terrorist planning to carry out a terror attack within Jerusalem in the foreseen future. The terrorist was caught due to a Shin Bet alert after receiving intelligence. The Israel Police is preparing for the high holidays with reinforcement throughout the capital city.

A tense night came to end in Jerusalem following a Shin Bet alert concerning a terrorist, most likely a resident of East Jerusalem’s Issawiya neighborhood, who intended on carrying out a terror attack within the near future. Due to the alert, the Israel Police’s Central Unit closed off several crossings and checkpoints at Jerusalem’s entrance and exit points.

Thanks to intelligence and the cooperation of the Jerusalem Police, the terrorist was located following a lengthy manhunt together with his vehicle in the Mount Scopus area. He was taken for interrogation by Israeli security forces.

Israeli security forces are being deployed throughout Jerusalem as part of an expansive plan towards the Jewish high holidays, specifically in the city’s eastern neighborhoods. Furthermore, there currently are no preliminary alerts concerning intentions to execute a terror attack in the city, aside from tonight’s specific alert.
