Palestinians respond to Trump’s decision: Day of rage in Gaza, West Bank, Jerusalem

Dozens of Palestinian gathered in Gaza near the security fence with Israel and started to throw stones at IDF forces on the other side of the border on Thursday morning. Hours earlier, Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh called for a new intifada against Israel.

Shortly after Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh called for a new intifada in response to US President Donald Trump’s announcement about Jerusalem’s status, dozens of Palestinians gathered in Gaza near the security fence and started to riot. IDF forces responded by attempting to distance the rioters from the border fence area. The clashes took place near the Israeli border Kibbutz Kissufim. According to Palestinian media outlets, three people were injured. One was shot in the leg while the other two were injured by tear gas.

The Palestinian rioters lit tires on fire and threw stones at the IDF forces on the other side of the border. The Israeli soldiers used riot control measures to distance them from the fence. Footage from the Khan Yunis area shows smoke rising near the border.

Meanwhile, riots involving thousands of Palestinians were reported in several locations throughout Jerusalem and the West Bank. The rioters threw stones and Molotov cocktails at Israeli security forces.

In addition, Molotov cocktails were thrown onto a road near Ma’ale Adumim from Isawiya. No damage or injuries were reported. IDF soldier and Israel Border Police officers who were at the scene arrested 10 suspects.

On Thursday morning, Haniyeh called Trump’s declaration “a declaration of war against the Palestinians.” In a mass protest rally in Gaza, Haniyeh said Hamas is already preparing for an intifada against “the occupation and the Zionist enemy.” Haniyeh added that he has “ordered a general draft of Hamas members to oppose Trump’s decision.”

“I’m calling [on you] to turn tomorrow’s day of rage into the beginning of a new intifada that will be called ‘the intifada of freedom for Jerusalem and the West Bank,’” he stated.
