Hamas calls to launch new intifada following US Jerusalem recognition

During a protest rally in Gaza, Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh called for a new intifada against "the occupation and the Zionist enemy," following US President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh is calling for a new intifada following US President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, calling the move "a declaration of war against the Palestinians."

In a mass protest rally in Gaza on Thursday morning, Haniyeh said Hamas is already preparing for an intifada against "the occupation and the Zionist enemy."

The IDF and the Israel Police remain on high alert, despite there being no specific intelligence so far regarding planned riots. The entry of worshipers into Temple Mount will not be affected for now.

Palestinian leaders have called for mass demonstrations in response to Trump's speech. The Palestinian Ministry of Education announced a day off for teachers, urging them to take part in planned protests in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.
