Palestinian sources told Israeli state radio station Kan that the Hamas terrorist group arrested a cell of a group affiliated with the Palestinian nationalist movement Fatah in Gaza and is questioning it following the firing of a rocket against the city of Beer Sheva two days ago. A unit of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) identified an attempt to penetrate the border fence, and the military spokesman said that several terrorists threw a grenade at soldiers in the north of the Strip, without causing injuries.
In parallel, the IDF announced the deployment of an Iron Dome anti-missile battery in the center of the country for fear of escalation given the fragility of the security situation. Senior Israeli officials clarified to Egypt and the UN envoy for the Middle East, Nickolay Mladenov, that despite the calm that prevails in the last hours, Israel is not committed to the ceasefire declared unilaterally by Hamas.
Israeli officials warned that the security apparatus will respond to all terrorist activity in the area, whether it be firing on Israeli territory or launching balloons and incendiary kites.
