Hamas leader: “Our weapons are the Palestinian people’s property”In response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement that Israel will not accept the reconciliation between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas unless the terrorist organization disarms itself and recognizes the State of Israel, Hamas leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar said that even after control of the Gaza Strip is handed over to the Palestinian Authority, Hamas will not agree to giving up its military wing.
The Palestinian news agency Ma’an reported that Hamas leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar said today (Tuesday) that the terrorist organization does not intend on disarming its military wing.
Sinwar’s statement was made in response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s remarks that Israel will not accept the reconciliation deal between the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Hamas unless the terrorist organization disarms itself and recognizes the State of Israel. “We as a people are still in the process of a national liberation and we can’t give up our weapons,” Sinwar said during a meeting with professional unions in Gaza.
“Our weapons must also be underneath the PLO’s umbrella,” Sinwar continued. “Our weapons are the Palestinian people’s property, we see them as part of the liberation process and we won’t use them to solve the internal conflict.” Sinwar emphasized that Hamas is determined to end the conflict: “Beginning at 12 PM on October 31st, control of the Gaza Strip will be transferred to the Palestinian Authority.”
“The reconciliation has a strategic value for Hamas,” Sinwar said, adding that Hamas is ready to conduct significant concessions in order to reach it. “We’ll apply pressure for reconciliation, to end the conflict and we’ll close the door to whoever wishes to sabotage the attempts.”
