Following the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas that JOL reported on last night, Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely attacked the Palestinian Authority Chairman, proclaiming that he “arrived in Washington while he continues to transfer money to the families of terrorists. It is clear to all reasonable people that Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas) is not interested in peace. I reject outright Abu Mazen’s nonsense about ending the occupation because the people of Israel don’t occupy their own country.”

In the meeting, Abbas told Trump that he seeks a just solution for the Palestinian terrorists sitting in Israeli jails and also the refugees. He added: “Mr. President, it’s about time for Israel to end its occupation of our people and of our land after 50 years.  We are the only remaining people in the world that still live under occupation.  We are aspiring and want to achieve our freedom, our dignity, and our right to self-determination.”

Leading up to the meeting between Trump and Abbas, Palestinian Media Watch reported that Fatah justified paying money to Palestinian terrorists and their families, claiming: “If we do not do this [pay salaries to prisoners], what will be their fate? They are liable to turn to ISIS... [We] say to the donor states [whose money goes to terrorists] that your donations help the PA bring peace to the Middle East.”

Fatah Central Committee member Rawhi Fattouh added: There is a drop in support and funding from all [countries] due to the pressures exerted on the decision makers in these countries by supporters of Israel and [Israeli] lobbies with various names. For example, they tell them: Why are you providing aid to those who are paying the prisoners and the Martyrs' (Shahids') families?” As a result of such efforts, according to PA Minister of Finance Shukri Bishara, foreign aid to the Palestinian Authority has decreased by 70% over the last 5 years.
