On Thursday evening, the IDF fired at two Hamas positions in the central Gaza Strip in response to two failed rocket launches fired at Israel earlier in the evening. "The IDF attacked two terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip by tank fire and an Israeli Air Force airstrike," the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said.
"The attacks were carried out in response to the rocket fired from northern Gaza Strip towards and into Israeli territory, as well as the rocket launch that took place earlier today that fell within the Gaza Strip. The IDF holds Hamas responsible for all that takes place inside the Gaza Strip.” Despite the suspicion of further rocket attacks, no special instructions were issued to Israeli residents living in the vicinity of the Gaza Strip.
As reported earlier by JOL, a red alert siren sounded Thursday evening in the area of Sderot and the towns nearby. One woman from Sderot was treated for shock as a result. The alert level in the area has been high over the last few days in anticipation of Trump’s declaration. Earlier today, massive riots broke out as well throughout the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem after Fatah and Hamas condemned the speech and called for direct confrontation with Israeli security forces.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh called for a new intifada and called recognition, "a declaration of war against the Palestinians." In a mass protest rally in Gaza on Thursday morning, Haniyeh added that Hamas is already preparing for an intifada against "the occupation and the Zionist enemy."
Khader Habib, a leader of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, also stated in response that "The Palestinian people have the right to use all manners to express their anger and all means of resistance. The Palestinian resistance will respond to this crime committed by the American administration and the Zionist enemy.”
