Abbas calls US envoy to Israel 'son of a dog'
Israel prepares for increased Palestinian efforts to carry out attacks in coming monthsThe IDF and other Israeli security forces will be on high alert in the coming weeks as Israelis celebrate Passover and Independence Day and Palestinians increase their attempts to carry out terror attacks. Hamas is already calling for another “Day of Rage” along the border this Friday.
Hamas is calling for another “Day of Rage” along Gaza’s border with Israel this Friday. The Israeli military is preparing for the large-scale riots, which could include some thousands of Palestinians.
According to Hadashot news, IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot will meet with senior officers later this week to discuss how to deal with the Gaza border threats without causing any loss of life on the Palestinian side. It is expected that they will instruct the soldiers to remain on high alert and thwart all attempts of crossing the border. In addition, IDF aircraft will likely disperse flyers urging Gazans against approaching the border and participating in the riots.
In the past month and a half, several explosive devices along the border have been detonated. In an explosion that took place on February 17, four Israeli soldiers were injured. The explosive devices were planted during the Friday border protests.
On March 30, the Palestinians will mark Land Day, which commemorates the 1976 events in which six Arabs were killed by Israeli forces. As part of the Land Day ceremonies in Gaza, Hamas is trying to organize a march in which thousands of Palestinians will march toward the border fence. A similar event is likely to take place on May 15 for Nakba Day.
Passover begins on the same day as Land Day. Palestinian attempts to carry out terror attacks usually increase during the Passover holiday, especially on Passover Eve. In 2014, 47-year-old Baruch Mizrahi, a father of five, was murdered by a Palestinian terrorist in a shooting attack outside Hebron on Passover Eve.
Israelis will then mark Yom Hazikaron and Israel’s 70th Independence Day a few weeks later. While Israel’s security forces are on high alert from Passover to Independence Day every year, US President Donald Trump’s declaration recognizing Jerusalem and decision to move the American embassy to the holy city, which coincides with Independence Day, are expected to prompt Palestinians and terrorist groups to increase their efforts to carry out terror attacks.
