Israeli Defense Minister criticizes Hamas, PA reconciliation effortFollowing reconciliation efforts between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman criticized the attempt as cynical. Meanwhile, Joint Arab List Chairman MK Ayman Odeh congratulated both sides.
This evening (Tuesday), Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman spoke against the reported reconciliation efforts between the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Hamas and stated that it is a cynical political attempt to mobilize public opinion on the streets: “The reconciliation between the PA and Hamas is an attempt to blame the other for whatever isn’t working.”
According to the minister, Israel continued to follow the developments, although he believes an agreement won’t come around, especially after hearing that the parties will attempt to share Gaza. “Abu Mazen (Abbas) says that he won’t go along with a Lebanese model, he says that if the PA provides the civil service it will also control the region.”
Meanwhile, Joint Arab List Chairman MK Ayman Odeh condemned Lieberman and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for their statements. “Opponents of the reconciliation are opponents of peace,” Odeh tweeted. “I spoke with Palestinian President Abbas and Hamas political chief (Ismail) Haniyeh today and congratulated them.”
