Israel's Justice Miniter Ayelet Shaked said she has been urging restaurant owners in south Tel Aviv to hire Palestinians instead of African "infiltrators," as she called them.

Israel's Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked said Monday that Palestinians should be able to work freely in Israel, and that she has been urging restaurant owners to employ Palestinians instead of asylum seekers from Africa.

Shaked was speaking at the 17th annual international conference held by the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism in Herzliya. She addressed a number of issues related to security, justice and the Israeli-Palestinian relations.

When asked by an interviewer about the current situation between Israel and the Palestinians, Shaked said, "We have to make tremendous efforts to develop the Palestinian Authority and their economy."

She added that one way in which Israel can help improve the Palestinian economy is to increase employment of Palestinians living in the West Bank.

"It should take someone living in Jenin (a West Bank city) about an hour to get to Kfar Saba," she said.
