Following the combined terror attack in Jerusalem in which Border Police officer Staff Sgt. Major Hadas Malka, 23, was murdered, the Jerusalem police launched an extensive operation in which 350 illegal Palestinian aliens were interrogated and expelled from Israeli territory.
Most of the identified illegal residents were located in the area of Sultan Suleiman, Salah a-Din and Damascus Gate in Jerusalem and most of them entered Israel illegally. The Israel Police said in a statement that "the ongoing activity in the area is carried out in accordance with the decision to revoke permits to visit families immediately, and this is because the investigation into the attack revealed that the three terrorists entered Israel without a permit."

Following the meeting Netanyahu held last night to assess the situation and the subsequent steps to be taken, the prime minister instructed security forces to consider transforming the area around the Damascus Gate in the Old City into a “sterile” buffer zone. Since the beginning of the “Knife Intifada,” numerous terror attacks have taken place near Damascus Gate, which marks an unofficial border between East and West Jerusalem.
"With the cruel Palestinian terror and unbridled incitement that feeds it, we will continue to fight with all of our might, and we will persecute those who direct and perpetrate terror everywhere,” Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said, echoing Netanyahu's message to the Palestinian Authority. "The thunderous silence of the Palestinian Authority, which refuses to condemn terrorism, while at the same time Fatah announces that Israel murdered three innocents yesterday, proves that there is no partner on the other side."
