Netanyahu: “I have a message for President Abbas: Stop paying terrorists”At the 2018 AIPAC policy conference on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas to stop paying terrorists. “What message does this send to Palestinian children? It says, ‘Murder Jews and get rich.’ I believe President Abbas should find greater use of this money,” Netanyahu said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated Tuesday that he is committed to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict but stressed that no progress can be made if the other side does not make the same commitment.
“Israel remains committed to achieving peace with all our neighbors, including the Palestinians,” Netanyahu told AIPAC’s 2018 policy conference. “But to get peace, [Palestinian Authority] President [Mahmoud] Abbas has to embrace peace and to stop supporting terror. Raise your hands if you agree with me that President Abbas should stop paying terrorists who murder Jews.”
According to Netanyahu, the PA pays about $350 million a year to terrorists and their families. “That’s about a little less than 10 percent of the total Palestinian budget,” he explained. “I have a message for President Abbas: Stop paying terrorists,” Netanyahu said as he received a round of applause from the audience. “Because what message does this send to Palestinian children? It says, ‘Murder Jews and get rich.’ I believe President Abbas should find greater use of this money—to build roads, schools, hospitals, factories.”
Earlier in his address, Netanyahu spoke about the story of Purim and linked it to the current Iranian threat: “Last week, we read in the Book of Esther about an earlier Persian attempt to exterminate our people. They failed then, they’ll fail now. We will never let Iran develop nuclear weapons—not now, not in 10 years, not ever.”Click here to JerusalemOnline homepage
