The Palestinian Authority has appealed to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague to respond to alleged Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people.

In a letter to ICC chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki described an escalation of Israeli aggression toward Palestinians. He said 16 Palestinians had been killed by Israeli forces in the last month, with thousands injured and over 700 arrested, of which 184 were children.

The appeal was made to mark three years since Bensouda announced the beginning of a probe into the situation in the region. Earlier in January, Israel’s National Security Council warned that the ICC may soon step up its investigation into the 2014 Gaza conflict and West Bank settlement construction.
