With the silence of Arab-Israeli Knesset Members following the death of Shimon Peres in the background, the association of Palestinian security prisoners at Megiddo Prison sent a letter today to the prison’s director in which they eulogized Peres, Israel’s 9th President.

The surprising letter was sent by a representative of the association who claimed that it represented all the Palestinian security prisoners in Israel - around 1000 prisoners from Fatah, Hamas and the Islamic Jihad. “We send our condolences to the government for the passing of former president Shimon Peres,” the letter read. “May you know no more sorrow.”

The letter also addressed Peres’s peace activity and his pursuit of peace in the Middle East. “We, like all the people of the world, respect this man of peace, this man of hope for peace,” the letter stated. “He did everything he could for peace to happen.”
