Ahead of US President Donald Trump’s speech regarding Jerusalem, the Israeli security establishment was put on high alert, fearing that the expected announcement about Washington recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital city will not be received well in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Meanwhile, Hamas, Fatah and other Palestinian groups are calling for several “days of rage,” with emphasis on Friday.

The Palestinian response will focus on two arenas. The first is the diplomatic realm. The Palestinian Authority is expected to take action against the US and Israel in the UN and other international bodies. The second arena is on the ground in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza.

Hamas has already called for the masses in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza to challenge the IDF following Trump’s speech. Meanwhile, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh spoke with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. According to Haniyeh, they agreed to encourage massive protests against the US announcement. The Israeli security forces believe that after the speech, the Palestinians will launch another round of violence, similar to the one that began after metal detectors were placed at the entrances to the Temple Mount in July.
