PM orders to restrict Israeli lawmakers' visits to Temple Mount
At Gaza border protest, Hamas leader calls Trump to promote Right of ReturnAddressing protesters who gathered near the Gaza Strip border fence on Friday, Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh called on US President Donald Trump "not to make concessions on Jerusalem" and vowed to promote the Palestinian Right of Return.
About 10,000 Palestinians are attending the "March of Return," a Hamas-led demonstration taking place in several locations along the Gaza Strip border fence.
Despite promises by the terrorist group to prevent protesters from getting near the fence, some were filmed throwing stones at IDF soldiers and waving a Palestinian flag just meters away from it. The IDF used riot control measures – and in some cases gunfire – to disperse them. According to reports on Palestinian media, three protesters have been killed.
A number of senior Hamas officials have also arrived in the area. Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas' political leader, addressed the protesters and said, "Our people are coming out today to tell Trump not to make concessions on Jerusalem, because there's no solution other than returning to our lands."
The IDF has declared the area near the fence a closed military zone. "We will not allow anyone to violate Israel's sovereignty or damaging our security infrastructure at the fence," it said in a statement. "Hamas is risking the lives of Gaza Strip residents and using them as a cover-up for terrorist activities. It is solely responsible for today's events and all of their consequences."
