A 49-year-old resident of East Jerusalem attempted to stab Border Police officers with scissors near Damascus Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem at 4 pm today. The officers shot and severely wounded the terrorist and she died from her wounds soon thereafter. It was later revealed that the terrorist was the mother of a young Palestinian who was accidentally shot and killed by Israeli security forces in September.

Palestinian media outlets reported that the terrorist was Siham Raateb Nimer, a mother of 11 children. One of her sons, Mustafa Nimer, was killed in the Shuafat Refugee Camp in September 2016. The boy was shot by officers who had mistakenly thought that he and his friend were planning a car ramming attack.

As the Passover Holiday approaches, there is growing speculation that more Palestinians will try to perpetrate lone wolf terror attacks against Israelis. As a result, security forces are expected to increase their presence in Jerusalem and throughout the country in the coming weeks.
