Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas met with the family of Ahed Tamimi, the teenager who was recorded about two months ago slapping IDF soldiers in the West Bank, on Monday in Ramallah. According to the PA’s official media outlet Wafa, Abbas praised the teenager, who will remain in police custody until the legal proceedings against her have been completed, as courageous.
The incident took place on December 15 in the village of Nabi Saleh, where the Tamimi family lives. The footage of Tamimi’s encounter with the Israeli soldiers, which went viral once posted on social media, was recorded by her mother, Nariman.
Earlier this week, the IDF confirmed that Tamimi’s trial has been postponed until February 13. Tamimi, who turned 17 last week while in jail, is charged with 12 offenses including incitement to violence, aggravated assault, stone-throwing and preventing a soldier from performing his duty.
