Two gunmen opened fire on worshipers in a Coptic church in the Helwan City district south of Cairo on Friday. The Egyptian authorities reported that at least nine people were murdered, among them three police officers.

Security forces reportedly eliminated one of the attackers, who was carrying an undetonated explosive belt after an exchange of fire and another was arrested. Two other bombs were defused near the church.

No terror group has claimed responsibly for the attack as of yet. Egypt has been fighting an Islamist terror upsurge since former President Mohammed Morsi was overthrown in 2013. Last month, over 230 people were murdered in a mosque in northern Sinai after terrorists opened fire and set off a bomb during Friday prayers. ISIS was widely believed to be behind the attack.
