Egyptian court overturns Morsi’s death sentenceFormer Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi’s death sentence was overturned today. The court ruled that he will be retried for the 2011 prison break charges.
The Egyptian Court of Cassation ruled today (Tuesday) that former President Mohammed Morsi will be retried for the 2011 prison break charges, overturning his previous death sentence. A source within the Egyptian judicial system announced the court’s decision.
Morsi has stood trial over the past years for several crimes including murder and inciting to the murder of protestors during his term. In June, he was convicted of passing state secrets to other countries and espionage. The Muslim Brotherhood leader was previously convicted in three different cases. In one of the cases, he was sentenced to death after he was found guilty of prison break charges.
