Suicide bombing at Damascus courthouse kills 25
Veteran member of Hamas speaks out against the organization in an open letter to Ismail HaniyehDr. Zaher Khail wrote on Facebook that he's “sorry for every minute spent as a member of Hamas” before quickly removing the post.
A former senior level member of Hamas in the Gaza Strip has spoken out strongly against the organization. Dr. Zaher Khail wrote on his Facebook page that he regrets every moment he spent as a member of Hamas the past 40 years.
In an open letter to Ismail Haniyeh, Khail writes that Hamas “killed the rules and humiliated religious clerics” and even took control over the judicial system and the media. He adds that: “Hamas crossed all of the red lines of humanity.”

Khail writes that he regrets every day that he was held in custody on Hamas’ behalf. He adds that he anticipates a bleak future for the Gaza Strip. His post has caused quite a stir on Palestinian social media networks and it would appear that Khail was startled by all of the attention as he subsequently removed the post from his Facebook page and explained this afternoon (Wednesday) that “his words were distorted and unnecessarily inflated.”
Last month, Yahya Sinwar, a senior level member and founder of Hamas’ military wing who is considered an extremist even by the Islamist movement’s standards, was chosen to replace Haniyeh as Hamas’ leader in the Gaza Strip. Dr. Khail is not the only Gazan who fears the direction in which the government in Gaza is heading; others have claimed that the government is on its way to becoming an extension of ISIS and will only lead to further humanitarian strife among the residents of Gaza.
