Hamas, PIJ decide to skip Palestinian meeting on Trump’s Jerusalem recognitionThe Gaza-based Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist groups have decided not to send representatives to a meeting on US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The meeting is scheduled for tomorrow in Ramallah.
Hamas decided on Saturday not to attend a Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Central Council meeting slated for Sunday. According to the Palestinian Authority’s official media outlet Wafa, the Ramallah meeting will be focused on discussing a new Palestinian strategy in light of US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Palestinian officials told Wafa that the PLO was informed about the decision by the group’s political bureau head, Ismail Haniyeh. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad also said that it would not be sending representatives to attend the meeting.
On December 6, Trump made his controversial Jerusalem announcement, a move that drew widespread condemnation from the Arab world and the international community. However, the announcement was praised in Israel by many politicians.
Last month, Israeli Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz (Likud) decided to name a new train station that will be built near Jerusalem’s Western Wall after Trump. Katz made the decision after he approved Israel Railways’ recommendation to build the station in the Old City, expanding the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv train route to the area.
“The Western Wall is the holiest site for the Jewish people and I’ve decided to call the train station that leads to it after US President Donald Trump following his brave and historic decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital,” Katz explained.
