Sectarian tensions between Sunnis and Shias is not a new phenomenon in Iraq but according to an anonymous Sunni source, former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki killed at least 600 Sunnis between 2006 and 2014. According to the Sunni source, the 600 Sunnis that Maliki murdered were all killed due to their opposition to the Iranian regime.

“These people include academics, pilots, military people, physicians, chemists, tribal leaders, etc.,” the Sunni source stated. The victims were killed in Basra, Baghdad and other areas across Iraq: “These people were all Sunni Arabs who posed obstacles for former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki.”

According to the source, Maliki has targeted numerous Sunni politicians within Iraq in order to make it easier for Iran to control the country. The source submitted to JerusalemOnline a list of 600 names of individuals that Maliki slaughtered while stressing that it is not an exclusive list: “He killed a lot of people.  There were more but we only have a list of 600 names.”

The Sunni source added that former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki killed anyone who made it difficult on him to impose his agenda in Iraq and it did not matter whether they were Sunni or Shia.  However, the source stressed that Maliki despised the Sunnis in particular due to the suppression that the Shias suffered under former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein’s regime.

The source claimed that when the Sunni politicians began to take actions to oppose him implementing Iran’s agenda in the country, Maliki allowed ISIS to take control of Sunni areas. The source stressed that he ordered that Iraqi forces should not fight against the murderous terror group for if the Sunni areas were not to be under his grip, he preferred that they live under the rule of a radical terror group: “He wanted to make it a burdened land for them. Sunnis were the victims. Many orphans lost their parents and women lost their husbands. The Sunnis are in a bad situation because of the war against ISIS.”

According to the Sunni source, Iran has its own interests that it wishes to implement in Iraq.  The source claimed that Iran seeks to establish a Shia crescent from Iraq to Syria, Lebanon and the Mediterranean and perhaps also the Red Sea.   According to the source, Iran attempts to implement the establishment of the Shia Crescent by getting the Shia to turn against the Sunni and Maliki helped them in implementing this policy: “Iran now has the upper hand.  It’s Obama’s fault. There are Shia militia flags on American tanks. You can see it in Mosul, Iraq. They are controlled by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. Now, Iran controls Iraq except for Erbil. Otherwise, they rule the whole country.”
