Saudi Crown Prince: PA needs to make peace with Israel or shut up, stop complainingSaudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman has strongly criticized the Palestinian Authority for not cooperating with the attempts to come to an agreement with Israel. The harsh remarks were made during a meeting with the heads of Jewish organizations in New York in March.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman strongly criticized the Palestinian Authority and Mahmoud Abbas during a meeting he held with the heads of central Jewish organizations on March 27 in New York.
“In the last 40 years, the Palestinian leadership has missed again and again the opportunities and rebuffed all the offers it was given,” bin Salman said, according to Israel’s Channel 10. “It is time for the Palestinians to accept the offers and agree to sit at the negotiation table – or they should shut up and stop complaining.”
According to the 32-year-old heir to the throne, Riyadh does not view the Palestinian matter as a top priority and the Saudi people are more concerned about other issues. “There are much more important and urgent issues to take care of – Iran, for instance,” he said.
However, the Saudi prince elucidated that significant progress has to be made towards an Israeli-Palestinian agreement before Saudi Arabia and the Arab world establish relations with Israel.
Three Israeli and American sources told Channel 10 that the statements by the Saudi prince were documented in a classified telegram sent from the Israeli consulate in New York to the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Jerusalem. The sources reported that the Jewish leaders who attended the meeting were astonished to hear bin Salman’s criticism and literally “fell off their chair,” said a source.
Bin Salman’s attitude towards the Israeli-Palestinian subject differs from the position held by his father, King Salman. The king, during a summit held two weeks ago in Riyadh, criticized US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and decision to relocate the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
