The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed on Wednesday morning that the Assad regime was responsible for yesterday’s deadly chemical attack in Idlib, which claimed the lives of about 100 people. According to Russia, Syrian aircraft bombed a rebel weapons arsenal that contained chemical weapons.
The Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson said in a statement that the arsenal was used to produce and store chemical weapons that were then transported to Iraq. The spokesperson said that Russian military experts have confirmed that the chemical weapons that were in the arsenal were the same type of weapons previously used by the rebels in a 2016 Aleppo attack.
Meanwhile, the Syrian regime continues to deny the allegations that it used chemical weapons and then attacked a hospital where hundreds of people who were injured in the attack were being treated.
In light of the deadly attack in Idlib, the UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting at the request of Britain and France. Meanwhile, the US confirmed that it was most likely sarin gas that was used in the attack but US President Donald Trump’s administration has not called for a response.
Yesterday, JOL News reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly condemned the chemical attack in Syria: “When I saw the pictures of babies suffocating from a chemical attack in Syria, I was shocked and outraged. There is no excuse whatsoever for the deliberate attack upon civilians and children especially with cruel and outlawed chemical weapons.”
