The Egyptian Army launched a large-scale military operation this evening (Friday) in northern Sinai in response to the terror attack on an Arish-area mosque, in which at least 305 people were murdered, 27 of whom were children. At least 128 more people were wounded. Arab media outlets are reporting that 15 of the terrorists involved in the terror attack were eliminated in a series of airstrikes that were conducted in areas surrounding the town of Bir al-Abed.

During a speech broadcasted on Egyptian television shortly after what has become the deadliest terror attack in the country’s history, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called the terror attack “criminal” and proclaimed that Egypt will brutally react against the perpetrators of the massacre. “The victims’ suffering wasn’t in vain and will only add to our resolve in the war on terror,” el-Sisi stated.

As reported earlier today by JOL, at least 305 people were murdered and an additional 128 were wounded today during a terror attack that took place within a mosque in the city of Bir el Abd located in northern Sinai, Egyptian television reported. According to the reports, several terrorists entered the Sufi mosque, most likely in an attempt to attack Egyptian security forces located at the scene, and set off a bomb causing immense damage. Afterwards, the armed terrorists opened fire towards the worshippers.

The country’s official news agency reported that local ISIS terrorists are apparently responsible for the terror attack, although no terrorist organization has officially claimed responsibility. As a result of the difficult incident, el-Sisi convened an emergency security meeting, where it was decided to raise the country’s state of alert to the highest level.
