ISIS spokesperson eliminated in Syria
US and Russia both claim they eliminated ISIS’s spokespersonThe Kremlin claimed that the Russian Army was responsible for the assassination of ISIS’s spokesperson just a few hours after the US stated that the US-led coalition forces eliminated him.
As reported by JOL yesterday (Tuesday), ISIS’s Amaq News Agency announced that the organization’s spokesperson Abu Mohammad al-Adnani, who was also considered to be one of its most senior level figures, was eliminated during the ongoing battles in the Northern Syrian city of Aleppo. However, there seems to be a dispute between the world powers about who was responsible for this accomplishment. Washington announced that al-Adnani was eliminated by the US-led coalition forces and a few hours later, the Russian Defense Ministry released a statement in which it claimed that the senior level ISIS terrorist was eliminated in a Russia air strike.
According to the statement released by Moscow, al-Adnani was among the dozens of rebels who were eliminated in an air strike in Aleppo. However, the US claims that ISIS’s second-in-command was eliminated by the US-led coalition forces earlier this week. Al-Adani was a former al-Qaeda terrorist and was among the founders of ISIS. “This is a moral blow to the organization because it proves that even its highest ranking leadership is a target,” said a senior-level Iraqi general.
“Coalition forces conducted a precision strike near Al Bab, Syria targeting Abu Muhammad al-Adnani,” said Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook. “We are still assessing the results of the strike but al-Adnani’s removal from the battlefield would mark another significant blow to ISIL,” continued Cook, referring to ISIS by another acronym.
“Al-Adnani was martyred while surveying the operations to repel the military campaigns in Aleppo,” the Amaq News Agency, which is associated with the murderous terrorist organization, confirmed in a statement yesterday.
