The Israeli Military Court of Appeals has rejected the request of Ahed Tamimi, a Palestinian teenage girl who was filmed assaulting an IDF soldier, to open her trial to the public.

Judge Netanel Benisho explained that every trial involving minors is held behind closed doors for their own protection and in order to allow a fair procedure.

Gaby Lasky, the lawyer who represents Tamimi, criticized the court's decision and said, "Public exposure is the only defense at Ahed's disposal, and it is obvious that without it, through a secret trial, she cannot receive a fair trial."

Tamimi was arrested in December after a video showing her slapping an IDF soldier went viral on social media.
