Israel continues to investigate an incident in which an IDF soldier was critically injured during an elite Duvdevan operation in the West Bank on Thursday.

The soldier was taken to a hospital after suffering a serious head injury. The army unit had arrived the al-Am’ari refugee camp near Ramallah in the West Bank to arrest suspected terrorists and was met by a crowd of Palestinians, including gunmen, who approached the moving vehicle, hurling stones and explosives at it. Soldiers shot back and at least 28 Palestinians were wounded.

According to the preliminary IDF investigation, the soldier was injured by a Palestinian who threw a large marble slab from the third floor of a building. The army added that the soldier was wearing his protective gear, including a helmet, during the operation.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman tweeted today: “Our hearts are with the Duvdevan combat soldier and his family during these difficult hours when everyone in Israel is praying together for his recovery. We are taking this incident very seriously. The wicked terrorist who hurt him will not know day or night. It will not take us long to get a hold of him, dead or alive.”

The elite IDF unit arrested about 100 Palestinian suspects in 2018 and about 300 in 2017.
