Azaria family says there’s ‘no dispute’ between them and defense attorney

The father of Elor Azaria responded to the rumors that his family and the defense attorney on his son’s case are at odds. “In contrast to what is being published by the media, the relationship between the Azaria family and attorney Yoram Sheftel and Sharon Gal is excellent,” he said.

A military court discussed Elor Azaria’s request to postpone the beginning of his 18-month sentence until IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot decides whether to grant him a reduced punishment. When he was leaving the courthouse, Charlie Azaria, the soldier’s father, said: “In contrast to what is being published by the media, the relationship between the Azaria family and attorney Yoram Sheftel and Sharon Gal is excellent. There’s no dispute.” Charlie even added the relationship is so good that “Sheftel can change his last name to Azaria.”

Sheftel requested this morning that the beginning of his client’s sentence be postponed until September 9, when the sentence is slated to become final, so that Azaria does not enter the prison without giving Eizenkot the chance to intervene on his behalf. As reported by JOL yesterday, the prosecution has already expressed its opposition to Azaria’s request, demanding that he begin his sentence tomorrow morning.
