On the 30th of July, the decision regarding Elor Azaria’s appeal of his conviction of manslaughter and 18-month imprisonment sentence will be reached by the court. Today (Monday), the military court decided to release Azaria, who until now was under ‘open arrest’ in a military base, to await his court hearing under full house arrest.

According to the judge’s decision, Azaria will stay at his parents’ home in Ramla and will be allowed to leave the house for prayers at the synagogue under his parents’ accompaniment.

Earlier, there was a dispute in the hearing. Azaria’s attorneys first wanted house arrest without limitations. Then, they were only willing to have restricting limitations between midnight and 6am.

Prosecutor Nadav Weisman opposed the demands and requested full house arrest with constricting conditions like in the military base. According to Weisman: “It is unthinkable that a soldier convicted of manslaughter will roam around freely as if nothing happened.”
