First hearing of Elor Azaria’s appeal, new evidence presentedAfter Elor Azaria’s defense attorneys quit, the appeal of the IDF soldier who fatally shot a neutralized terrorist started today.
Several months after the verdict, this morning (Wednesday), the Military Court of Appeals began discussing the appeal of IDF soldier Elor Azaria who fatally shot a neutralized terrorist in Hebron and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
In today’s hearing, Azaria was represented by attorney Yoram Sheftal for the first time, after his previous defense attorneys quit. “Although we are two defense attorneys fighting for the innocence of a Jewish soldiers,” Sheftal said. “There are millions of attorneys who are praying for the safety and innocence of the soldier Elor Azaria.”
Sheftal requested to present new evidence from previous cases in which the defendants also fatally shot Palestinian terrorists and were acquitted. In addition, he summoned one of Azaria’s previous attorneys and claimed that the Military Advocate General threatened to appeal Azaria’s ‘easy punishment’ if an appeal would be filed against the conviction.
