The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit claims that a number of soldiers were lying about having the highly-contagious skin infection that was discovered at the Shizafon base in southern Israel last week. According to the statement, the soldiers will be dealt with by the commanders, as “the behavior is inconsistent with what is expected of IDF soldiers.” In addition, it was reported that the soldiers with real infections were treated and returned to the base.

Last week, the IDF confirmed that dozens of soldiers were infected with impetigo, a common contagious disease caused by two types of bacteria and which is revealed in the scabs that appear on the skin. It usually begins with scratches, mosquito bites, or skin that is damaged by another skin disease.
