IDF soldier severely wounded during grenade exercise in southern Israel

The military police have launched an investigation into the incident. The use of grenades has been halted until the investigation is completed.

An IDF soldier was severely injured on Friday when a grenade exploded during a training exercise at a base in southern Israel.

Maj. Gen. Kobi Barak, the commander of the GOC Army Headquarters, has ordered to halt the use of grenades during drills until the investigation into the incident is completed.

The soldier was taken to hospital for treatment. One of his commanders was also hurt in the incident.

The military police have launched an investigation. It is still unknown whether the explosion was caused by a technical problem or a human error.
