30 Mortars fired from Gaza during the morning, IDF attacked Hamas targets in response
Gaza fires rockets at Israel in fresh attack: Iron Dome intercepts some, others fall in open areasThe Israeli military is taking extra precautions and has ordered the immediate evacuation of Ashkelon’s Zikim Beach.
Several rocket sirens were sounded on Tuesday afternoon in the Israeli communities near the Gaza border. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit has confirmed that multiple rockets were fired and that some of them were intercepted by the Iron Dome system. Others fell in open fields in the Eshkol Regional Council.
However, parts of the rockets that were intercepted fell in populated Israeli territory. The spokesperson for Sderot said that the city has received reports of rocket parts in the yards of residents. In light of the attacks, the Eshkol Regional Council has instructed residents to remain in close proximity to bomb shelters until further notice. The Israeli army has also ordered the immediate evacuation of Ashkelon’s Zikim Beach.
This morning, in response to multiple barrages of mortars, the Israeli Air Force attacked Palestinian Islamic Jihad targets in central Gaza. “The IDF is currently operating in the Gaza Strip. The explosions heard are related to this activity,” the IDF spokesperson tweeted.
It would appear that the IDF’s strategic attack targeted Hamas and PIJ training grounds and bases. In addition, a terror tunnel and three Hamas naval facilities were attacked by the Israeli fighter jets.
Earlier today, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on the attacks: “Israel will exact a heavy price from anyone who tries to attack it, and we view Hamas as responsible for preventing such attacks against us.”

Netanyahu reportedly met with intelligence and government officials at the Prime Minister’s Office in an emergency meeting to assess the situation. Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman convened with the heads of the security establishment at the Kirya military and intelligence hub in Tel Aviv.
