Today (Sunday), new details from the investigation into last week’s terror attack in the Old City’s Lion's Gate in Jerusalem have been cleared for publication. The Israel Police discovered a WhatsApp group chat that the terrorist was part of named “The Path to Paradise.”  As part of the investigation into the attack in which two Israeli Border Policemen were moderately wounded, the police arrested all 18 members of the WhatsApp group.

As previously reported by JOL, two 20-year-old policemen were injured by the 25-year-old terrorist, a resident of Jabel Mukaber who was shot and eliminated. The WhatsApp group the terrorist was part of was mostly composed of residents from East Jerusalem and the West Bank.  A day after the terror attack, the group members were arrested including its founder and the managers, who were all questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime.

The investigation revealed that the group was created to exchange radical religious content. Today, 10 of the suspects’ detention has been extended until tomorrow.

"The group's exposure and its examined content and impact is a significant stage in our investigation into the attack which injured two Border Police officers," said the police. "The investigation of the group and the arrests disrupts the possible intentions of others to follow in the terrorist’s footsteps and to attempt to perpetrate an attack.”
