IDF foils attempt by Hamas to rebuild terror tunnel
Liberman: IDF to destroy all terror tunnels by end of 2018According to Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, the IDF is “specifically targeting attack tunnels” in order to destroy all of them by the end of the year. He also stated that the military will respond forcefully to every act of aggression along Israel’s border with Gaza.
Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman vowed on Sunday that all terror tunnels would be eliminated by the end of 2018. Earlier today, the IDF destroyed two attacks tunnels from Gaza.
“We are specifically targeting attack tunnels and the goal is to destroy all the attack tunnels and other infrastructure by the end of the year,” the Yisrael Beiteinu chairman told Walla! News. He also promised that Israel would respond with force to every act of aggression along the southern border with Gaza.
Liberman also commented on the arrest of the terrorist who murdered Rabbi Itamar Ben-Gal in Ariel last month. “The fight against terrorism is not a one-time fight. [It’s] a continuous effort carried out by all the security forces,” he said.
On Saturday evening, Liberman told Hadashot’s Dana Weiss that Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas is trying to force Israel into a conflict with Hamas. According to Liberman, Abbas is clearly trying to cause the tensions between Israel and the ruling terrorist group in Gaza to rise.
Last week, PA Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah survived an assassination attempt while he was in Gaza. Shortly after the attack, Abbas issued a statement holding Hamas responsible for the attempt on the senior PA official’s life. According to Liberman, Abbas has decided to use the assassination attempt as justification to stop the PA’s payments to Gaza, which would exacerbate the tensions between Gaza and Israel.
“What particularly stands out is the attempt by Abu Mazen [Abbas] to make the situation worse and spark a conflict between Hamas and Israel,” Liberman claimed. “We are witnessing the attempts by Abu Mazen to bring about a conflict. He is trying to bring about a deterioration [in the security situation] because once he stops the payments, also for the humanitarian services such as health and water, it’s clear that this will make the situation in Gaza worse.”
