Lieberman: Lebanon’s army is ‘integral part of the Hezbollah network’

The IDF is preparing for every possible war scenario, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman stated on Tuesday. Lieberman said that regardless of where the next war with Israel begins, it will spread to other fronts.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman commented Tuesday on the volatile security situation in the region. “Our entire effort is to prevent the next war, but in the ‘new’ Middle East, the same estimates we previously knew, such as a low probability, are just not relevant assessments,” he explained.

“The next war in the north will not be only in the Lebanon region,” he continued. “It will be one region, the northern region, Syria and Lebanon together.” Lieberman also said that Lebanon’s military “has lost its independence and turned into an integral part of the Hezbollah network.”

“There will be no more battles in one region- in the north or in the south,” he warned. “Even if the next conflict starts, it won’t matter where it began, in the north or in the south, [because] it will immediately become a two-front war.”

“The reality is fragile; it [a war] could happen in an instant, from one day to the next,” he added. “We need to be ready for every possible scenario and the new reality is also preparing new challenges for us. There are no more one-front conflicts. This is our basic assumption. We are preparing the army for this.”

“The basic concept for me is ‘the one who wants peace will prepare for war,’” Lieberman stated. “The person who desires peace needs to prepare for war and I hope that our enemies on the other side will think really well about every move against the State of Israel, so we won’t have to demonstrate the full strength and abilities of the IDF.”
