Watch: 7 foreign air forces in Israel for large-scale drill
In threatening video, Israel promises 'harsh' response to any attempt to avenge terror tunnel explosionIn a video message in Arabic aimed at the Islamic Jihad terror organization, the IDF's Major General Yoav Mordechai made it clear that Israel would retaliate immediately and forcefully to any act of vengeance after the explosion of the terror tunnel a week and a half ago. "We are aware of the plot that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group was planning against Israel," he said. "They are playing with fire."
The IDF's Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories released a threatening message today to the terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip: In light of the demolition of the terror tunnel from Gaza a week and a half ago, Major General Yoav Mordechai wanted to make it clear to Israel's enemies that there would be severe repercussions for anyone hoping for revenge.
"Two weeks ago, Israel destroyed a terror tunnel in Israeli sovereign territory," Mordechai said in the beginning of the video. "We are aware of the plot that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group was planning against Israel. They are playing with fire at the expense of the Gazan residents, the Palestinian reconciliation efforts and the stability of the entire region."
"Let it be clear: Any attack by the Islamic Jihad, will be met with a harsh and determined Israeli response. This will not only apply for the Islamic Jihad but also for Hamas," Mordechai added. "We advise the Islamic Jihad leadership in Damascus to exercise caution and take control over the situation. To the leadership of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Damascus- Ramadan Shalah and Ziad Nakhaleb- we say: Take matters quickly into your own hands, because you are the ones who will held accountable."
Three days after Israel destroyed the terror tunnel that was discovered near the Gaza border, an explosion in which 14 terrorist operatives were killed, the Islamic Jihad posted a video in which they threatened to launch attacks and fire rockets at Israel. The video shows footage from the terrorists' funerals and then cuts away to show Islamic Jihad members setting up rockets on launch pads, looking through binoculars, digging tunnels and loading guns. As the video comes to a close, the words "Time is running out" appear on the screen in both Hebrew and Arabic.
As reported earlier by JOL, the IDF and Israeli security establishment believe that Islamic Jihad will attempt to carry out terror attacks out of revenge, but not only from the Gaza Strip as "a terror attack could even come from the West Bank." According to a senior source in the Southern Command, "though Jihad is indeed coordinated with Hamas, it can also act independently. They will find it difficult to restrain themselves and this could be the firing of rockets or anti-tank missiles- they are deliberating how and when to respond."
