A Palestinian terrorist opened fire at close range on Israel Border Police officers in the West Bank early Thursday morning. No injuries were reported.
The IDF spokesperson has released footage of the arrest, which shows troops arriving at the scene and apprehending the terrorist. The terrorist opened fire from the Palestinian town of Al-Khader, near Bethlehem, on Border Police officers who were stationed at a nearby checkpoint.
According to the IDF, soldiers who were manning an observation post in the area tracked the terrorist as he attempted to flee the scene. The soldiers were in contact with the forces on the ground and directed them to the terrorist’s location.
As the forces approached the terrorist, he opened fire again, hitting their armored vehicle several times. No injuries were reported among the Israeli troops in the second shooting incident. However, the terrorist, a 20-year-old Beit Sahur resident, was slightly injured. He received medical treatment at the scene.
When searching the terrorist, the soldiers found a pocket knife in his possessions. In addition, an FN pistol was found nearby. Police believe that it was the weapon used in the attack.
Meanwhile, an IDF soldier was seriously injured on Thursday morning when soldiers from the elite Duvdevan unit entered the al-Am’ari refugee camp near Ramallah to arrest suspected terrorists. Dozens of Palestinians attacked the troops by throwing rocks and cement blocks at them.
The injured soldier sustained a serious wound to the head. He was evacuated to a hospital to receive medical treatment while sedated and on a respirator. The incident is being investigated by the IDF and the soldier's family was notified.
