Picture of same-sex couple on Israeli Air Force’s Facebook page sparks controversyThe managers of the Israeli Air Force’s official Facebook page uploaded a picture of a same-sex couple as part of the military branch’s Family Day project. However, the picture was criticized by many Facebook users. The Israeli Air Force stated in response: “In our opinion, everyone is equal and we are all one big family.”
In honor of Israel’s Family Day, the Israeli Air Force decided to upload pictures of families that serve in the military branch to its official Facebook page. One of the pictures was of Captain Adir Gabay and his partner Din. Shortly after the post was uploaded, many negative comments about the same-sex couple appeared. The Israeli Air Force was also criticized by Facebook users for choosing to upload the picture of the two.
Gabay and his partner met during their military service in the air force. Eight years later, they decided to get married. The picture of the couple was uploaded to the air force’s Facebook page alongside several other pictures of families.

“I’m not a liberal and I’m sorry if I’m hurting someone,” wrote one Facebook user. “They are wonderful people but what exactly is this post trying to prove? I think that there are some things that are best kept in private.”
“In honor of Family Day, which was marked today, we chose to take part in a project that will present all the types of families that serve in the air force including a same-sex family,” wrote the Israeli Air Force in response. “In our opinion, everyone is equal and we are all one big family.”
