About a month and a half ago, two IDF soldiers were caught on camera throwing a lit object toward a Palestinian’s storage unit in Nablus. Today (Thursday), a military court sentenced the two soldiers to 60 days in prison, 30 military work days and an additional six-month suspended sentence. The court also ruled that the soldiers each pay the Palestinian whose property was damaged 5,000 NIS in compensation.

It was also determined that the soldiers will be demoted to the rank of private. The soldiers confessed to the crime and took responsibility for their actions. They were convicted after they signed a plea bargain with the prosecution.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit stated: “The IDF strongly opposes all destruction of civilian property carried out by soldiers and will continue to firmly deal with these incidents.” Close friends of the Palestinian whose storage unit was torched said that they are pleased with the court’s ruling and hope that such a punishment will discourage other soldiers from carrying out similar acts in the future.

As reported by JOL on September 22, a video obtained by Channel 2 News shows the soldiers throwing a burning object toward the storage unit.
